Ways to melt Ice and Snow
2/7/2018 (Permalink)
De-icing methods have been used a lot in the last few weeks. There are several different types of methods that can be used.
- Most common is Sodium Chloride know as rock salt. It can damage concrete, metal and pollute river, lakes and streams so this is probably the least likely one you would want to use.
- Calcium Chloride comes in round pellets and if your hands are wet during application they can become irritated.
- One of the better choices is Potassium Chloride and it is not a skin irritant and doesn’t harm vegetation.
- New to the group is Magnesium Chloride and it will melt ice and snow till -13F. This is also less damaging to concrete and vegetation.
