During a freeze pipe burst.

With the cold weather approaching we are preparing for the busted pipe season.  Some of you may be considered snowbirds and leave just before the cold weather hits.  There are several tips you can follow that will help with you not coming home to a flooded moldy house in the spring.

1. Turn off your water supply lines.
2. Have anti-freeze put into toilets and sinks.
3. Leave vanity and cabinet doors open to let the heat in.
4. Keep your heat set at no lower than 55 degrees (recommended by Consumer Reports) but take in account that if the temperature outside drops that will affect the inside so you should keep it a little higher to be safe.
5. Have a family member, friend or neighbor check on the house while you’re gone.
